Annual Activities & Events
Annual Activities, Events & Our Mission
The Knights of Columbus are an active, visible presence in both our parish and the wider community. Our council is deeply involved not only in council activities, but also in meaningful service throughout Stow, Hudson, and Peninsula.
From hosting popular community events to hands-on charitable work, the Knights offer many ways for men to connect with one another, grow in faith, and make a real difference.
Each year, our council sponsors Lenten Fish Fries, participates in Habitat for Humanity projects year-round, and works passionately with the Right to Life movement, including supporting the Embrace Clinic in Akron through our annual Baby Bottle Drive. We assist our parish with improvement and maintenance projects, host our annual Summer Picnic at Virginia Kendall Park, and bring joy to families every December with the beloved “Santa Is Coming to Town” event.
Through these and many other activities, the Knights of Columbus remain committed to serving God, our parish, and our community.
Our Principles in Action
Everything we do is guided by the four founding principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
Charity:
Our council provides both financial and spiritual support to local seminarians and a variety of charitable causes. We host six fish fries each Lent, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Holy Family Church and School, and conduct an annual spring collection for local agencies serving the developmentally disabled. We also hold a charity raffle, with 100% of the profits going directly to charitable activities. In addition, we actively support pro-life initiatives, including our “baby-bottle blitz,” which helped fund an ultrasound machine for a local pregnancy counseling center, saving countless lives.
Unity:
Your brother Knight is likely a member of your parish, someone you know or have seen actively involved in church and charitable activities. He is friendly, hardworking, family-oriented, and committed to serving the parish and community. Members of our council support one another in times of need, such as illness or loss, exemplified by a 2013 reverse raffle that raised over $16,000 to help a brother Knight and his family.
Fraternity:
Knights gather for social events throughout the year, including the Installation of Officers dinner, Columbus Day dinner, summer picnics, and golf outings. Before each monthly meeting, an optional Rosary is prayed, and meetings are followed by snacks and time to socialize. In November, members and their families come together for the annual Memorial Mass and breakfast to honor deceased Knights and family members. The Knights of Columbus also offers a full range of insurance benefits, including life, disability, long-term care, and annuities, exclusively for members and their families through a trusted network of agents.
Patriotism:
Each November, our council conducts a drive to collect personal care items and snacks for the military, which are donated directly to the USO. In the past, we have also sent care packages to a platoon in Afghanistan. At Christmas, we donate to the VA Hospital in Cleveland to help inpatient veterans purchase gifts for their loved ones. Over the years, our council has contributed to local schools and public areas by providing U.S. flags and partnered with other councils to install a Knights of Columbus granite memorial honoring deceased veterans at the Western Reserve National Cemetery.
