October 10, 2024 — Visit to Open House for new Portage County Pregnancy Center

Photo from an Open House at the new Portage County Pregnancy Center. This was a “special Open House” for members of the various Councils that contributed to the purchase of the new ultrasound equipment that can be seen in this photo. Our Council donated $5,000 to help purchase this equipment. Other Councils from Portage and Mahoning Counties also partnered with us to raise almost $40,000. This photo shows all the Knights from the various Councils who attended the Open House, including our Council Knights shown and identified in the photo below.

ARCHIVED 2021-2023:
Dear Brother Knights — there were 46 in attendance at our Council picnic this past Sunday at the Ledges Pavilion in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It was a warm and somewhat humid day but, as you can see from some of the photos, we were seated under the overhang allowing a breeze to mitigate these conditions. Weather-wise, it was a great day for a picnic. There was plenty of food to eat--from the dishes everyone brought to compliment the brats, burgers and hot dogs, which were cooked up and provided by the Council to snack food and desserts. The mass celebrated by Fr. Alex Spenik was a really joyous event by itself, but coupled with the great location outdoors and the joining together of so many fine Knights and their families, made this so much more memorable. There were numerous Knights and wives attending together. It was really nice to have 4-5 families attend with their children ranging in age from barely walking up to adults — the picnic is an ideal setting for families and we hope we can attract more to attend next year. As you will see from the photos, there is a huge area to spread out and play games, not to mention two hiking trails that begin near the pavilion.
I want to thank the other two members of the Picnic Team, Grand Knight Neil Durbin and Trustee Ron Crock, for all the work they put into making this a successful gathering. You’ll see them in one photo doing the cooking over a very hot and smoky grill while standing out in the heat of the day. A number of Knights and their wives assisted with a number of tasks that helped the picnic run smoothly. A special thank you and hug to my wife, Kay, who willingly helped me with much of the work and preparation leading up to the picnic and her help during the picnic, particularly with serving the food, which was key to everything going so smoothly.
Planning will begin shortly for next year’s picnic. While I think the Ledges is a great location for this event, the Council is always open to explore other venues. The Ledges does cost $110 to rent for the day. I am interested in any feedback you may have in terms of your satisfaction with the Ledges location and/or suggestions for an alternate site. Vivat Jesus! Bob Eikenburg

Dear Brother Knights, last Tuesday was our annual Installation and Award's Dinner. We had a great turnout of 71 people and enjoyed a basic, but delicious meal. The highlights of the evening were the presentation of Council awards followed by the installation of officers for the next fraternal year beginning July 1.
The following are this year's awards winners:
- Alex Movshin, St. Mary Parish in Hudson-- Co-recipient of "Youth of the Year Award"
- Luke Novak, Holy Family Parish — Co-recipient of “Youth of the Year Award”
- Knight Tom Fogle — “Volunteer of the Year”
- Knight Neil & Elena McHale and children: Gavin, Rachel & Laura — “Family of the Year”
- Father Paul Rosing — “Religious of the Year”
- Knight Andy Kaminski — “Knight of the Year”
Additionally, my wife, Kay and I were both surprised by receipt of separate “Certificates of Merit” from the Council Trustees presented to us by Trustee Pat Rynd. It was a very special evening that left a lot of people smiling at the end. See the photos below. You know the expression, “A Picture is worth a thousand words”!!

Dear Fellow Knights — We completed our 2nd Saturday of work at this house at 1966 East Ave in Akron this past weekend. There was a full crew of seven working: Ray Jasko, Andy Kaminski, Neil McHale, Pat Rynd, Andrew Skinner, John Tomko, and myself. As you can see from the photos, we worked only on putting up the siding and the soffits which are located on the underside of the eaves of the house. The day started off cold, somewhere in the mid to upper 40’s but it warmed up nicely as the day progressed. Plus, we started generating our own heat as we began working — yes, we did do some work….. I think the photos and captions below will give you a good idea of how the day went. I can tell you this — there was a real sense of accomplishment when we ended the work day and were able to view the work that was completed. Thanks to the Knights who worked this past Saturday as well as the prior workday, Saturday, August 26. Vivat Jesus! Bob Eikenburg, GK
