What is the Angel Scholarship Fund?
The Angel Scholarship Fund has been established by the Catholic Community Foundation as a new way to provide assistance to our Catholic schools and students within the Diocese of Cleveland. Launched in 2021, it allows individuals to effectively “convert tax dollars into tuition” by making charitable donations to the fund. Donors can benefit from a 100% tax credit on their State of Ohio income tax for the year they make their contribution. Currently, the maximum credit available is $750 per individual ($1,500 for married couples filing jointly, with each spouse donating $750).
Who will benefit from this initiative?
This initiative aims to assist Ohio's Catholic schools and students by giving priority to scholarships for low-income families seeking better educational opportunities for their children. It also enables taxpayers to lower their Ohio state tax obligations by donating to Scholarship Granting Organizations, including the Angel Scholarship Fund established by the Catholic Community Foundation. This contribution acts as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against the amount owed to the state of Ohio
How can I claim the tax credit?
Taxpayers can claim this credit when they file their tax return by entering the amount donated on the relevant lines of the Ohio individual income tax return and attaching the receipt provided by the Angel Scholarship Fund. If you do not have any income tax liability in the State of Ohio, you will not receive any benefits.
Those who donate online will receive a tax receipt via email immediately after their contribution. Meanwhile, those who use the mail-in contribution form will get their receipt after the beginning of the new year.
How to Contribute to the Angel Scholarship Fund
You can make a powerful difference for Holy Family School students — at no extra cost to you. The Angel Scholarship Fund allows Ohio taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state income tax to support Catholic school scholarships.
1. Decide Your Gift Amount
Ohio taxpayers can give up to $750 individually or $1,500 per married couple and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on their state income tax.
2. Donate Online or by Mail
Visit the Catholic Community Foundation’s Angel Scholarship Fund page to donate securely online, or mail your contribution form.
Be sure to designate “Holy Family School” as the recipient so your gift directly helps our students.
3. Keep Your Receipt
You’ll receive a receipt from the Foundation — save it to claim your tax credit when filing your Ohio return.
