Choose LIFE - protect the sanctity of
God's gift from the moment of conception until natural death.
Dear
Friend of Life,
"God makes us capable of giving ourselves, even
sacrificing ourselves for the sake of the common good. Part of our
self-sacrifice is to create a culture worthy of people made in God's image and
likeness." Francis Cardinal George, OMI.
We here at Holy Family Church
have been trying to create this culture, "the culture of life," for the past 15
years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you do
in supporting the pro-life movement. You have supported us with your time,
talent, and treasure in many of the activities highlighted here, in order to
help us foster this culture of life.
Our group has been engaged in the
following activities:
- An annual pro-life art an essay contest at Holy Family
School, with prizes, for 4th-8th grades.
- A pro-life memorial at Holy Family Church, jointly with
the Stow-Hudson Knights of Columbus.
- A school-based program for 6th-8th grades to introduce
children to the (grade-appropriate) life issues, particularly abortion.
- A pro-life 24-hour prayer vigil on the anniversary of Roe
v. Wade every January.
- A Tallmadge Circle prayerful pro-life witness on the Roe
v. Wade anniversary.
- Study groups on Pope John Paul II's encyclical, the Gospel
of Life.
- Newspaper Signature Sunday, providing a public witness
supporting mother and child.
- Mother's Day carnations sale to benefit Right to Life of
Summit County.
- Two baby showers a year to benefit local pregnancy care
facilities and a school to teach parents how to be parents.
- A Life Chain on the streets of Akron to show that there
are people who care about the unborn and their mothers.
- Prayerful witness at abortion facilities on E. Market St.
in Akron on Fridays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. (We believe that we, along with others,
have been instrumental in closing at least one facility on W. Market St.)
- Discussion groups on end-of-life issues, euthanasia, and
living wills.
- Supporting Right to Life of Summit County and Diocesan
pro-life activities.
This year, we are initiating several new projects:
- Coordinating our information services, including this new
webpage, on pro-life issues. A key component of this will be setting up
database networks and providing resources so that interested individuals can
make contact with key stakeholders.
- Establishing a television kiosk that features the beauty
of life in the womb, and displaying it in malls, colleges, libraries, and other
public gathering places.
- Providing pro-life information, such as the Moses Law
(where to drop off an unwanted newborn infant) in bus shelters and on buses in
and around town and at college campuses.
- Continuing efforts to focus pro-life education within Holy
Family School.
Many of these activities involve costs. In past
years, these expenses have been met through our primary fundraiser, an annual
Christmas card sale. After sponsoring the sale for over 10 years, it seems to
have run its course in terms of generating donations for our group. With over
3000 families in our parish, we were struggling to sell 200 boxes of cards, and
so we discontinued the sale two years ago.
Many have been supportive
to our pro-life movement here at Holy Family Church. We now directly solicit
these members via mail on an annual basis to ask for their support.
We
know how tough times can be for many of our supporters, but we humbly ask you
to contribute what you can to help us further develop this culture of life. We
are particularly focused on fostering a culture of life through changing the
hearts of our youth and fellow parishioners that they too might become
"champions for life."
Please make out a tax-deductible contribution to
HOLY FAMILY PRO-LIFE. And send it today to: Patrick Rynd c/o
